Livestock Management

Livestock resizedLivestock are integral part of farming – cattle are used in agricultural practices like ploughing and cow dung and urine as used as agricultural inputs. Agriculture waste serves as cattle fodder while the milk products are consumed by the rural farmers. With the intent of strengthening the interdependence of livestock and farming, GREEN foundation conducted trainings on livestock management in Chithradurga and Ramanagara districts in association with the veterinary department.




Azolla, a blue green algae, has been promoted in the GREEN’s project area. DSC07274 resizedAzolla is used as an organic fertilizer in rice fields and as an animal feed since its rich in protein, essential amino acids, minerals and vitamins. Usage of Azolla as fodder reduces the cost of feed providing essential nutrition to the livestock. Around 150 farmers from both districts attended training on Azolla
